INTRODUCTION

Today, the demand for professionally trained students is on the rise. In 2004, during the X Plan period, the UGC decided to encourage skill oriented and value added courses in colleges / universities. From 2004-2009, the Library offered a one year UGC sponsored certificate course in Documentation and Information Science to students of the college. The purpose of this course was to equip professionally qualified students, who have a thorough knowledge of their core subjects, with proficiency in another skill in order to provide them with more openings in the Employment sectors.

During the year 2011-12, due to popular demand, the Library is offering a one year Certificate Course in Documentation and Multimedia.

ELIGIBILITY

Admission is open to candidates studying in any undergraduate course in Stella Maris College.

DURATION

The Duration of the certified course is for two semesters of any academic year, consisting of 450 years (300 hours theory, 150 hours project, practicals)

ATTENDANCE

A candidate shall receive the certificate if she secures not less than 80% attendance in each semester

CONDUCT OF EXAMINATION

Candidates will be periodically tested. A candidate who does not pass the examination in any one of the papers shall be permitted to write the failed paper in the subsequent examination

PASSING CRITERIA

A candidate shall be declared to have cleared in each paper/project/field work if she secures not less than 40% of the marks prescribed for the course

PERCENTAGE OF MARKS

Successful candidates are categorized as follows : 60 % or above: I Class, 50% -59%: II Class, 40%-49%: III Class.
