Principal's Biodata


Dr. Sr. Jasintha Quadras, fmm took office as the eighth Principal of Stella Maris College on May 1, 2008, after serving as Vice-Principal of the college for over three years. She holds an M.Phil degree and a Doctorate in Mathematics from the University of Madras. Her area of specialisation is Graph Theory and her research was titled 'Embeddings and Interconnection Networks'. She has a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Applications from Stella Maris College and MS in Computer Science from Marquette University, USA. She joined the faculty of the Department of Mathematics in 1996, and held the additional post of Director, Department of Computer Science from 1996 to 2000. During this time, she conceptualized and set up one of the earliest state-of-the-art computer labs in the college and helped design the syllabus for the newly introduced BCA degree programme in 1998. She has presented research papers at numerous seminars, and participated in workshops, conferences and training programmes in a wide range of areas including leadership training, capacity building, networking and quality sustenance in educational institutions. She has also published articles in both national and international journals.

Dr. Sr. Jasintha Quadras holds several expert and advisory positions in various academic bodies. She has been the Member / Coordinator of the NAAC Peer Team which assessed several colleges: Member - UGC Expert Committee to evaluate the UGC XI Plan requirements; Member - UGC Expert Committee to consider proposals for grant of financial assistance to colleges for conducting seminars, symposia and minor research projects. She was selected for a three phase leadership programme - 'Leading Catholic Universities in the Twenty first Century' organized by the International Federation of Catholic Universities, France during the period 2012-2014. She has received several awards for her services in the field of education, the most recent being an award given jointly by Deakin University and Education Matters.

She belongs to the Congregation of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary and is committed to the charism of its Foundress, Blessed Mary of the Passion and the spirituality of St. Francis of Assissi, the Patron of the congregation.
